"Idiomatic expressions that sound strange gramatically whose meaning is different than their literal meaning."
「文法的におかしく、文字通りの意味とは異なる慣用語法の表現」です。

"I threw on my tee shirt."
これは、I got dressed quickly without caring much.　つまり「深く考えずにT-シャツをただ着てきた。」という意味になります。

"It's worth a shot."
It means that it's worth trying to do something. つまり、「なにかするにあたって、それを挑戦してみる価値がある。」という意味になります。

It's derived from the idea that you are aiming at a target with a gun, you may miss the target but at least you should try.
語源としては、「銃で的を狙っていて、もしかしたら的をはずすかもしれないけど少なくとも撃ってみるべきである。」ということから来てます。

"Make mｙ day."
An event is changing the course of your day - it's making your day better or worse. 「ある出来事が良くも悪くもその日の成り行きを変える。」という意味です。

"go ahead and try to make my day"と言ったときには、相手を脅すときに使用したりします。
「ダーティーハリー」という映画で、主人公の刑事が、近くにある銃を取ろうとしている強盗にこう言ってます。"Go ahead, make my day."

また、"tie"という単語でもさまざまな場合に使われます。
"My hands are tied."は選択の余地がない時に使います。
"being tied up"は忙しいときに使います。
"tie the knot"は結婚するという意味です。
"Tie up loose ends "は残った半端仕事を放っておかないで片付けるという意味になります。

さまざまな表現方法がありますね。いっぺんに覚えるのは大変なので、少しずつ覚えていくのがいいと思います。
